Swimming is an important and valuable life skill which is why here at Crescent School we ensure that all pupils from Year 1 to Year 6 swim as part of their PE curriculum. With time spent developing and improving stroke technique and stamina but also a focus on water safety and water skills.
Recent Swim England research has found that 70% of children are taken out of swimming lessons before they are capable in the water but that is not the case here at Crescent School. Swim England identifies four key competencies children should meet: to be able to safely swim 100m, tread water for 60 seconds, float for 30 seconds and swim in clothing. Last year 100% of Crescent pupils were able to swim 100m or much more and all Year 6 pupils left having gained Swim England’s Water Safety Level 3 Award with some even achieving their Rookie Lifeguard Award.
As well as swimming lessons, Crescent pupils also have the chance to compete in galas with teams taking part in the Rugby Town Gala and ISA Midlands Gala every year with great success, as well as the much-anticipated and always enjoyed House Swimming Gala.
At Crescent School, parents have the reassurance that their children will master essential swimming skills as part of their everyday school life, providing peace of mind as they grow older and also providing them with a lifelong means of exercise and enjoyment.
