Sports Day A Super Smashing Record Breaking Success

By the end of the afternoon barely a record still stood, race after race, event after event our outstanding Crescent sportsmen and women dashed, leapt and threw, surpassing all previous achievements to make this year’s Sports Day a super, smashing, record breaking success.

Our combined Prep and Pre-Prep Sports Day took place on Monday 10 July. We travelled the short distance to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Track in Rugby, so we could make use of their fantastic athletics facilities.

Our Pre-Prep children enjoyed traditional sports day races including sprints, egg and spoon, skipping and the ever popular obstacle race. Then after a break to refuel they finished with relay shuttle races.

The Prep children took part in sprints, a middle distance 800m race, the Long Jump and High Jump, a Throwing Challenge and Relay Races. All of the events were hotly contested and there were lots of new school records set. The new record holders will have their names published on our Sports Noticeboard. The records included:

Year 3 60m Sprint Amelia Frere 10.50 seconds
Year 3 Throwing Mehul Patel 28 metres
Year 3 High Jump Phoebe Causer 0.97 metres
Year 4 Long Jump Lewis Darby 3.53 metres
Year 5 and 6 800m Oliver Bell 2 minutes 46.75 seconds

Girls 5 and 6 Throwing Georgia Dowling 33.59 metres

At the end of the afternoon Mr Phillips announced the House results and Mr Marshall presented the trophies.

Years 5 and 6 Relay 2-way tie Red and Yellow Houses

Years 1 and 2 Overall Yellow House

Years 5 and 6 Overall Yellow House

At the Crescent Sports Day it isn’t just about the competition, it is all about the participation. Every child ran in a sprint and every child took part in an individual event and, most importantly, every child had fun. As is always the case the children’s behaviour was impeccable, they offered support and encouragement to each other and congratulated and commiserated with good heart.

Thank you to all of the staff and volunteers who helped the event run so smoothly and to all of the mums and dads for cheering the children on to success.

What a fabulous fun-filled afternoon enjoyed by all!
