The first week of February saw parents come into school to join their child in the classroom. The idea of this was to enable parents to experience a typical English lesson and to gain a flavour of how their children are taught in Reception, Year 1 and 2.
Lessons started off on a whole class basis with parent and child reading, discussing and planning together.

Parents and their child then did some shared writing together: focusing on imaginative ideas, plausible spellings and correctly placed punctuation.

From a teaching point of view it was great to see the way that parents and children related to one another and shared ideas to support learning. Parents told us afterwards that they really benefitted from seeing the structure and style of lessons in school. As for the children……….”It was fun”, “It gave you chances to get more done” and my own favourite….”Parents and their children can get better at their learning together”!!
