Georgia Dowling has just been selected for Warwickshire’s Development of Excellence Cricket Squad for U11 girls. Georgia, who is in Class VI at Crescent School, has been playing cricket since she was seven-years old. She currently plays for Oakfield Cricket Club, in Rugby, in their U11 hardball team.

Georgia was a key member of the school’s U11 team last summer and was nominated for the county trials by Head of Sport, Matt Phillips. The selection took place over three consecutive Sunday mornings and the girls played in the nets and took part in two matches. She is 1 of only 18 girls selected for the squad. Georgia impressed the coaches with her all-round excellent play. She will now train every Tuesday evening at Edgbaston, over the winter, with a view to being selected for the summer squad to play matches against other counties.

Matt Phillips comments, “We are very proud of Georgia, she is a talented and exciting cricketer and this is a great opportunity for her. We look forward to following her progress over the winter in the Development Squad.”

Georgia is more modest about her achievements, commenting, “I just enjoy playing cricket.” However, being selected for the Development Squad is a real achievement as the squads are a pathway onto the Regional and National Academy programmes.
